Chapter 18 - The Final VerdictSix months later.

The autumn chill had given way to the gentle, blooming warmth of spring. The city was quiet, the media storm having long since faded into the archives of tabloid history.

I stood in the sunlit nursery of my downtown penthouse, gently rocking a sleeping baby girl wrapped in a soft, pastel pink blanket.

The trial had concluded three weeks ago. Savannah had been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for wire fraud and conspiracy, though due to her cooperation regarding her family's wider criminal network, she might see parole in four. Bernice was already serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for kidnapping and grand larceny.

The courts had granted me full, unhindered custody of my daughter, Elena, ensuring she would grow up knowing love, honesty, and truth—qualities neither of her grandmothers nor her mother had ever truly understood.

The door behind me clicked open softly, and Arthur stepped in, holding a steaming cup of coffee.

"How is she doing?" Arthur asked, smiling gently as he looked down at the tiny infant resting against my chest.

"Sleeping like an angel," I whispered back, kissing the top of my daughter's dark, soft hair. "Just like she's supposed to."

Arthur placed a hand on my shoulder, a proud, familial warmth in his eyes. "You survived the fire, Christopher. The Vance name is restored. What's the plan for tomorrow?"

I looked out the panoramic window, watching the morning sun break brilliantly over the horizon, casting away every shadow of the past.

"Tomorrow," I smiled, tightening my grip around my daughter, "we finally start living our own life."
