Chapter 17 - The Boardroom ShowdownThe glass doors of the Vance Global corporate headquarters loomed intimidatingly over the grand lobby. As Arthur and I stepped out of the elevator on the fiftieth floor, the board members turned in unison.

The long mahogany table was surrounded by senior executives who hadn't seen a Vance family member in decades. And sitting right at the end of the table, looking pale but impeccably composed in a tailored white coat, was Savannah.

She had been released on bail just twenty minutes prior.

"Christopher," Savannah said softly, standing up as we walked in. "Thank God you're here. I know everything looks bad, but we can fix this. Together. For our baby."

The board members murmured among themselves, whispering about the dramatic soap opera unfolding before them.

"Save it, Savannah," I said, walking straight past her and slamming the signed confession and federal investigative files onto the mahogany table. "The game is over. Bernice confessed to the kidnapping and the embezzlement. And your family's shell companies have been frozen by federal marshals."

Savannah’s face drained of all color. For the first time since I met her, her mask completely shattered. She looked down at the documents, her hands trembling violently.

"You... you wouldn't," she whispered, her voice cracking. "I'm carrying your child, Chris."

"And that child will be cared for," I said coldly, pulling out my own copy of the corporate charter and signing my birth name—Christopher Vance—on the dotted line with firm, unwavering strokes. "Safely, legally, and far away from people like you."
