Chapter 19 - The Unfinished Page

As our first full year in London drew to a close, I found myself sitting at my study desk one quiet evening, going through a box of old personal mementos that had been shipped over from New York months ago.
At the very bottom of the box lay a single, crumpled piece of paper—the original divorce settlement sheet Bradley had shoved across the mediator’s desk on that cold morning over a year ago.
I pulled it out and smoothed it flat against the mahogany wood.
“There’s nothing left to divide, Sarah,” he had said with that triumphant, sneering smile.
He had been right, in a way. There was nothing left of his empire, nothing left of his stolen wealth, and nothing left of the toxic marriage that had tried to suffocate my soul. He had stripped away everything he thought mattered, forcing me to walk away with only our children’s passports and a secret folder.
And in doing so, he had accidentally given me the greatest gift of all: the space to discover who I truly was.

I took a red pen from the desk holder, drew a clean, bold line across his signature at the bottom of the old document, and tossed it straight into the recycling bin.
My phone rested silently on the desk. No frantic voicemails. No threatening texts. No hidden traps waiting to spring. Just absolute, beautiful silence.
