Chapter 2 - The Clinic Confrontation

Across the Atlantic, inside the pristine, minimalist waiting room of Manhattan’s most exclusive reproductive health clinic, the atmosphere was supposed to be euphoric. Pink and white floral arrangements sat on mahogany tables, and a chilled bottle of non-alcoholic champagne rested in an ice bucket. Bradley stood beside Tiffany, his arm draped protectively over her designer dress, while his mother, Eleanor, beamed with the relentless pride of a woman who believed her bloodline was about to be sanctified by a new, more compliant heir.

"Isn't it just a blessing?" Eleanor murmured, patting Tiffany’s hand. "A fresh start. A real family."

The clinic door clicked open, and Dr. Harrison stepped out holding a thick manila folder. His expression lacked the warm, congratulatory smile Bradley and his family had been expecting. Instead, there was a clinical coldness in his eyes.

"Mr. Vance?" Dr. Harrison called out, glancing at the chart. "Or Mr. Reynolds, I should say. We have a discrepancy on your intake forms that requires your immediate signature before we can proceed with the ultrasound monitoring."

Bradley stepped forward, flashing the easy, charismatic grin that had charmed boardrooms and country clubs alike. "Everything alright, Doctor? Is the baby healthy?"

"The fetus is developing normally," Dr. Harrison said evenly, stepping aside to hold the office door open. "However, our financial and legal compliance department flagged an administrative anomaly during the insurance verification sweep. Step inside my office, please. Just you, Mr. Reynolds."

Tiffany pouted playfully. "Can’t I come? It’s our baby."

"Company policy for third-party donor and surrogate alignment verification," Dr. Harrison lied smoothly, a protocol Marcus Vance had paid a hefty retainer to institute earlier that morning.

Bradley walked into the office, closing the door behind him. He didn't see the trap closing. He didn't know that the chair he sat in was wired into a secure audio feed monitored directly by Marcus’s NY legal team.

"Now," Dr. Harrison began, adjusting his glasses and sliding a single piece of paper across the desk. "Our genetic counselor noticed that the unique genetic markers provided for paternal authorization don't match the social security profile you submitted today, Mr. Reynolds. In fact, according to the national medical database registry linked to your primary trust fund... you had a vasectomy reversal that was paid out of an offshore corporate account three weeks ago. But more importantly... you are biologically sterile."

Bradley’s smile vanished. The room seemed to tilt on its axis.
