Chapter 6 - The Web Tightens

By the end of the first week in London, the walls around Bradley Reynolds had completely caved in. Stripped of his penthouse, his luxury vehicles, and his corporate accounts, he had been forced to move into a modest, cramped studio apartment belonging to his sister Brittany—a humiliating downgrade for a man who viewed himself as Manhattan royalty.

He tried calling my phone repeatedly, but I had blocked his number on day two. Instead, his desperate voicemails flooded Marcus’s office line, alternating between screaming threats of legal retaliation and pathetic, weeping pleas for mercy.

"Sarah, please! Just talk to me!" one message begged, his voice cracking with desperation. "We have a history! Think of the kids! You can't just ruin my life over a mistake—over a temporary lapse in judgment! Let's work this out like adults!"

I listened to the voicemail while sitting in a sunlit café overlooking Hyde Park, watching Connor and Madison chase pigeons across the emerald grass. A temporary lapse in judgment. That was what he called months of systematic financial abuse, gaslighting, and betrayal while our children were denied basic medical care because he claimed we were broke.

My phone vibrated with a new notification. It wasn't Bradley. It was an email from the High Court of Justice in London, confirming that the provisional custody orders had been made permanent under international family law protection acts. Bradley had no legal recourse, no financial leverage, and no way to reach us without triggering immediate Interpol detention for violating international asset concealment statutes.

Just then, a familiar figure caught my eye across the park path. A man in a sharp, bespoke Italian suit was standing near the edge of the trees, holding a familiar leather portfolio under his arm.

Marcus Vance.

He spotted me, raised a hand in greeting, and began walking across the grass toward my table.
