Chapter 9 - A New Horizon

The following Saturday, Connor, Madison, and I spent the afternoon exploring the British Museum. Madison insisted on seeing the Egyptian exhibits, her eyes wide with wonder as she traced the hieroglyphics behind glass cases, while Connor chattered excitedly about ancient armor and swords.

Watching them move through the grand, sunlit halls, I realized how much light had returned to their lives. They weren't walking on eggshells anymore. They weren't listening to hushed arguments about whether we could afford groceries or medical bills. They were free.

My phone rang again—this time, a familiar, welcome ringtone.

"Sarah," Marcus’s voice came through crisp and clear. "I hope I’m not interrupting your weekend."

"Not at all, Marcus. We're at the museum," I whispered, stepping slightly away from the tour group. "Is everything finalized?"

"The final seal has been stamped by the international court," Marcus said, a note of genuine warmth in his tone. "Bradley’s legal team formally withdrew all counterclaims this morning. He has officially signed away any remaining visitation rights until court-mandated psychological and financial restitution evaluations are completed. As far as the law is concerned, you and the children are entirely untouchable."

A profound exhale escaped my lips, the last remaining knot of tension finally unwinding from my shoulders.

"Thank you, Marcus," I said softly. "For everything."

"Don't thank me, Sarah," he replied. "I only provided the tools. You were the one who built the bridge."
