Chapter 3 - The Ghost in the Ledger

In London, the Daimler pulled up to a quiet, elegant Victorian townhouse in Kensington. The lights were warm, glowing through tall sash windows, welcoming us home. This wasn’t a safehouse; it was a property purchased three years ago under a blind corporate trust that Bradley had never managed to audit or uncover. While he was busy buying luxury sports cars and funding Tiffany’s lavish lifestyle, Marcus and I had systematically secured our future brick by brick.
As Connor and Madison were carried upstairs by the night staff to comfortable beds, I sat at the mahogany study desk and opened the secret folder.
Page forty-two caught my eye again. It was a wire transfer confirmation dated six months ago. The recipient: Apex Bio-Health Solutions. The amount: four hundred and fifty thousand dollars. The memo line had been scrubbed clean, but Marcus’s forensic accountants had traced the IP address back to Bradley’s private laptop.
My phone buzzed. It was an encrypted audio file sent directly from New York. I plugged in my earbuds and pressed play.
Bradley’s voice came through the speaker, tight, panicked, and stripped of all its arrogant polish.
"What are you talking about? That’s impossible," Bradley stammered on the recording. "I’m the father. Tiffany is carrying my child!"
Dr. Harrison’s voice remained chillingly calm. "Mr. Reynolds, the legal registry shows that the anonymous donor profile you selected to impregnate Ms. Vance through artificial insemination matches an escrow account tied directly to your brother-in-law’s shell company. Furthermore, the financial audit we received this morning indicates that you didn't just pay for the clinic procedures—you paid off a man named Marcus Vance to look the other way on asset concealment. Except... Mr. Vance isn't on your payroll. He’s your wife’s attorney."
A heavy, suffocating silence hung over the audio file for several agonizing seconds. Then came the sound of Bradley standing up abruptly, knocking his chair against the wall.

"Sarah..." Bradley whispered, the realization finally hitting him like a physical blow. "Sarah did this."
I closed my laptop, a slow smile touching my lips. He was only just beginning to realize the depth of the cage he had built for himself.
