Chapter 17 - THE PROPER VOWSTears pricked my eyes as I looked down at the man who had fought through the ashes of a crumbling empire to find himself—and to find us.

"Only if you promise never to listen to your mother if she ever tries to give you relationship advice again," I joked through a watery laugh.
"Deal," Ryan grinned, sliding the stunning diamond ring onto my finger. He stood up and pulled me into his arms, kissing me with a deep, passionate intensity that swept away every remnant of our painful past.
Six months later, we held a small, intimate ceremony on a quiet coastal cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There were no corporate moguls, no manipulative relatives, and no fake mistresses—just our closest, most trusted friends, the sound of crashing waves, and a future entirely of our own making.
Ryan had officially launched a brand-new tech firm, Sterling & Vance Innovations—reclaiming his first name and building a company rooted in absolute transparency, ethical AI development, and strict corporate governance. He had donated fifty percent of his remaining personal wealth to orphanages and educational foundations, honoring the memory of his true biological parents.
As for me, I was named Senior Managing Partner of our new corporate law firm, specializing in ethics compliance and corporate restructuring. We were partners in every sense of the word—equal, respected, and completely inseparable.
Sitting on the veranda of our beachside home on a warm summer evening, watching the sunset paint the sky in shades of gold and violet, my phone buzzed on the glass table.
I glanced down. It wasn't an anonymous threat or a corporate crisis notification. It was a simple text from Arthur Vance:
“Just reviewed the quarterly audit. The new firm is officially debt-free and thriving. Enjoy your evening, boss.”
I smiled, locked the phone, and tossed it onto the couch.
Ryan walked out onto the veranda, holding two glasses of chilled wine, handing one to me as he slipped his arm around my shoulders.
"What are you smiling about?" he asked, pressing a kiss to my hair.
"Just realizing," I murmured, leaning into his side as the stars began to twinkle across the vast night sky, "that sometimes, everything has to fall completely apart... just so the right pieces can finally fall into place."
Ryan nodded, raising his glass to toast the horizon. "To the truth."
May you like
"To the truth," I echoed, clinking my glass against his.
And for the first time in our lives, the future looked completely, beautifully clear.
