Chapter 5 - THE SIEGE AT DAWN"What the hell is happening?" Ryan shouted, dropping the papers onto the desk as he rushed to the window and pulled back the heavy velvet curtain.

Outside, three black SUV vehicles were speeding up the private gravel driveway, their headlights cutting through the early morning fog like lasers. Men in tactical gear poured out of the vehicles, fanning out around the mansion and cutting off all exits.

"Ryan, we have to go to the panic room—now!" Elena screamed, lunging forward to grab her son's arm.

"No," a cold, unfamiliar voice echoed from the doorway of the study.

We all whipped our heads around. Standing in the doorway was a tall, silver-haired man in an expensive tailored suit, flanked by two armed security guards in plain clothes. His face bore a striking, undeniable resemblance to the portrait of Victor Sterling hanging in the hallway—except his eyes were sharp, cold, and entirely merciless.

Vanessa gasped, dropping the fake silicone belly completely onto the floor as she backed away in absolute terror.

"Hello, sister-in-law," the silver-haired man said, fixing his icy gaze directly on Elena. "Did you really think you could bury me twenty-five years ago and get away with it?"

Elena clutched her chest, her knees buckling beneath her. "Julian... No... You died in the Alps! The helicopter crash—"

"Was a staged assassination attempt orchestrated by you and your dear departed husband to steal my share of the Sterling empire," Julian said smoothly, stepping into the room. He turned his gaze to Ryan, scanning him from head to toe with a critical, calculating look. "And who is this? Ah... the boy you swapped with my newborn son to ensure your bloodline remained on the throne."

Ryan staggered back, slamming into the bookshelf. He looked at Julian, then at Elena, his world completely collapsing around him in real time.

"Mother... tell me he's lying," Ryan whispered, tears finally spilling over his eyelashes. "Tell me none of this is true."

Elena couldn't speak. She collapsed onto the Persian rug, sobbing hysterically, her grand empire of lies turning to ash around her.

Julian smiled coldly, walking toward the desk. He picked up the manila folder I had left there, flipping through the pages with an air of complete satisfaction. He then looked up, his eyes locking onto me.

"And you must be Katherine," Julian said, his tone softening slightly. "My inside source. I must thank you for opening the safe right on schedule."

I froze. I stared at Julian, then at my phone in my hand, where the encrypted messages had originated. The anonymous sender wasn't a guardian angel. It was Julian Sterling, using me as a pawn in his brutal revenge plot.

"You used me," I said, my voice dangerously low as anger surged through my veins, pushing away the shock.

"I utilized your justified anger, my dear," Julian corrected smoothly, turning his attention back to Ryan. "And now, nephew—or whatever you prefer to call yourself—it's time for a family meeting."
