Chapter 20 - Into the Light

The grand ballroom of the Mercer estate was filled with the soft hum of conversation, the clinking of crystal glasses, and the gentle strains of a string quartet playing softly in the background. Hannah tapped her glass against mine, her eyes bright with the reflection of the glittering crystal chandeliers overhead. "And to never staying in the dark, Mr. Mercer."

I looked out across the crowded room, watching my daughter laugh, feeling the warm embrace of my wife nearby, and breathing in the crisp, unhindered air of the waterfront I had fought so hard to reclaim. My vision was clear, my world was wide open, and for the first time in five years, the future belonged entirely to me.
