Chapter 20 - The Final Shadow

Six months later.
The morning sun shone brightly over the restored Harrington estate. The dark clouds that had hung over the family for years were completely gone.
The news media called it the turnaround of the century. The Apex Syndicate was completely dismantled by federal authorities. Harrington Enterprises was officially restructured into the Evelyn & Grace Humanitarian Foundation, dedicated to protecting vulnerable children worldwide.
In the grand garden beside the sparkling pool, a small family gathering was taking place.
Leo and his twin sister Maya sat together on a colorful blanket on the lawn, giggling and playing with wooden blocks.
Adrian stood by the stone path, wearing a tailored navy suit, holding two glasses of champagne. He walked over to Grace, who was sitting on the stone bench wearing an elegant white lace dress, her short hair glowing in the sunlight.
He handed her a glass and sat down beside her.
"The board approved the final transfer today," Adrian said, his voice filled with warm contentment. "You are officially the sole chairwoman of the foundation."
"We did it together," Grace smiled, taking a sip.
Adrian reached out, taking her hand in his, his thumb softly tracing her knuckles. "Grace... when you first came to this house, you were a ghost hunting for justice. But now... you are the heart of this family. I don't ever want you to leave."
Grace looked into his deep eyes, seeing the genuine, devoted man he had become. "I'm not going anywhere, Adrian. My home is right here."
Adrian leaned in, and their lips met in a gentle, passionate kiss, sealed under the warmth of the afternoon sun.
Later that evening, after the children were put to sleep in their nursery, Grace returned to her private study to organize her desk.
On top of her laptop lay an unmarked white envelope that hadn't been there an hour ago.
Grace froze. Her former intelligence training instantly made her heart skip a beat.
She carefully picked up the envelope and opened it. Inside was a single printed photograph.
The photograph showed a bustling street cafe in Paris, France, taken just two days ago. Sitting at a corner table, wearing sunglasses and a silk scarf, was a beautiful woman sipping coffee.
Grace’s breath caught in her throat. Her hands began to shake violently.
It was Evelyn.
Her sister—who was supposed to have been buried eight months ago—was alive.

Taped to the back of the photograph was a handwritten note in Evelyn’s distinct handwriting:
'You saved my twins, Grace. You saved the man I loved. But the real war hasn't even begun. Look behind the mirror in father's study. I'm waiting for you in Paris.'
