Chapter 16 - THE RECKONING AT GENEVATwo Weeks Later.

The fallout from the Queens warehouse incident was swift and absolute. Marcus Vance had made the fatal mistake of underestimating the resources of a retired syndicate boss who had nothing left to lose.

Within forty-eight hours, our international intelligence network tracked Marcus Vance across the Atlantic to a private chalet in the hills above Geneva, Switzerland.

Adrian didn't call the police. He didn't send a team. He handled it personally.

I stood on the sunlit balcony of our upstate estate, holding little Leo in my arms while Mia played on the lawn with her golden retriever, when the encrypted satellite phone on the patio table chimed.

I picked it up and pressed answer.

"It’s done," Adrian’s voice came through the speaker, calm, steady, and completely at peace.

"Are you alright?" I asked, my heart skipping a beat.

"I'm fine, Elena," Adrian replied softly. "Marcus is in federal custody, awaiting extradition to New York to stand trial for domestic terrorism and extortion. He will never see the outside of a maximum-security prison again."

I let out a long, shuddering breath I felt like I'd been holding for weeks. "And David?"

"We brought him home, Elena," Adrian said, his voice dropping into a gentle, solemn register. "We gave him a proper burial in the family plot overlooking the Hudson River, right beside the sanctuary. His name has been fully cleared. The world finally knows the truth of what he tried to do."

Tears filled my eyes, but this time they were light, cleansing tears. The shadow that had hung over my past for seven years was finally gone.

"Come home, Adrian," I whispered. "The kids miss their daddy."

"I'm on my way, Mrs. Kane," he replied. "I'll be home in an hour."
