That evening, after Mia had fallen asleep in her grand canopy bed, Lorenzo led Alina out onto the private balcony of the master suite.
The Manhattan skyline glittered across the horizon like a sea of diamonds, a silent testament to the city they now ruled together.
Lorenzo reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He didn't drop to one knee—that wasn't his style—but as he opened the box, revealing a vintage diamond ring that had belonged to his mother, his eyes held an absolute, unshakeable devotion.
