Chapter 9 - The Legacy

Three months later, the New York underworld had been completely restructured. The corrupt factions were purged, the ports were secured under strict compliance audits managed by Alina herself, and the Morty syndicate was more powerful than it had ever been.
In the grand private gardens of the estate, the autumn sun cast a golden glow across the manicured rose bushes.
Mia chased a golden retriever across the grass, her happy laughter echoing against the stone walls.
Alina sat on a wrought-iron bench, sipping chamomile tea, watching her daughter play. Footsteps crunched softly on the gravel path beside her.
Lorenzo sat down, taking off his suit jacket and rolling up his sleeves. He looked tired, but for the first time in his life, his eyes held genuine peace.
"The commission signed the new charter this morning," Lorenzo said quietly, resting his arm along the back of the bench. "No more underground wars. We go legit on logistics and real estate, exactly as your audit projections recommended."
Alina turned her head, looking at him with a faint smile. "You're listening to an accountant? You really have gone soft, Mr. Morty."
"Only for the right auditor," Lorenzo murmured, reaching out to gently interlock his fingers with hers.
Across the lawn, little Mia stopped running, spotted them, and sprinted over, throwing her arms around Lorenzo’s knee.
"Daddy! Look what I found!" she giggled, holding up a polished, smooth stone she had picked from the garden.

Lorenzo smiled—a real, warm, unguarded smile that transformed his intimidating face completely. He scooped Mia up into his arms, hoisting her onto his shoulders just as a real father would.
Alina watched them, her heart finally resting. The terrifying mafia boss had found his redemption, and she had found her home.
