Chapter 5 - The Grand Gala Confrontation

The night of the Grand Imperial Gala arrived. The venue was ablaze with crystal chandeliers, champagne fountains, and the elite of global society.
Marcus managed to sneak inside using an old security pass from his bankrupt firm, slipping past the velvet ropes in a worn-out suit that hung loosely off his gaunt frame.
From across the ballroom, he saw her.
Julianne was radiant. She wore an emerald-green silk gown that shimmered under the lights, her dark hair styled in elegant waves. She moved through the crowd with absolute grace, flanked by high-ranking diplomats and corporate titans who hung onto her every word.
Beside her were Lily and Maya, dressed like little princesses, laughing as they held hands with their mother.
Marcus felt a sharp pang of agony in his chest. He took a deep breath and pushed through the crowd.
"Julianne!" he cried out, his voice cutting through the soft orchestral music.
Security guards immediately moved to step in, but Julianne raised a single hand, stopping them instantly. She turned slowly, her posture regal, her expression cool and unbothered.
"Marcus," she said calmly, as if greeting a stranger who had asked for directions.
"Julianne, please... just hear me out," Marcus begged, stepping closer, ignoring the murmuring crowd that had gathered around them. "I know I was a monster. I know I hurt you. But I saw the paternity papers... I know the girls are mine. I miss them, Julianne. I miss you!"
Roxanne, who had somehow followed Marcus into the event hoping to plead for a loan, burst through the crowd, her eyes wild.
"Julianne! You trapped him!" Roxanne shouted, pointing an accusing finger. "You knew who you were all along! You let us struggle! You orchestrated our downfall!"
The crowd gasped in disgust at Roxanne’s scene, but Julianne didn't even blink.
"Orchestrated your downfall?" Julianne asked, her voice echoing clearly across the ballroom. "Roxanne, I didn't ruin your family. I simply stopped paying for your arrogance. Everything you lost—the condo, the cars, the business—was bought with my patience. And my patience ran out the moment you treated my daughters like burdens."
"They're my daughters too!" Marcus yelled, tears streaming down his face. "Julianne, please, let me be a father to them!"
May you like
Julianne looked down at her two little girls, then back up at Marcus. Her gaze was entirely devoid of hate—and that was what broke Marcus completely. There was only indifference.
"You gave up your rights as a father the moment you signed those papers with a smile, Marcus," she said softly. "You sold your family for a boy that didn't exist."
