Chapter 6 - The Unraveling Lie

Just as Marcus prepared to fall to his knees and beg, the grand double doors of the ballroom slammed open.
Two police officers in sharp uniforms walked inside, followed by a man in a clinical lab coat. It was Dr. Vance, holding an official police folder.
"Marcus Henderson?" the lead officer asked, stepping forward.
Marcus blinked, stunned. "Yes? What is this about?"
"You are under arrest for corporate fraud, money laundering, and illegal solicitation of medical substances," the officer announced, pulling out a pair of handcuffs.
"What?!" Roxanne screamed. "What are you talking about?! He didn't do anything!"
Dr. Vance stepped forward, looking strictly at Marcus. "Mr. Henderson, after the incident at my clinic, an internal audit was triggered. We discovered that Penelope wasn't acting alone. You authorized payments from your firm’s escrow accounts to black-market pharmaceutical vendors to purchase experimental fertility drugs for her—drugs that are illegal in this country."
Marcus’s head spun. "No! I didn't—Penelope told me those were imported vitamins!"
"You signed the wire transfers yourself, Mr. Henderson," Dr. Vance said coldly. "And worse... the funds you used were stolen directly from the Vance Charitable Foundation’s local account."
The ballroom erupted into shocked whispers.
Marcus looked at Julianne in horror. "Julianne... you set me up?"
"I didn't set you up, Marcus," Julianne replied, her tone icy smooth. "You asked me five years ago to manage your corporate accounting access. You gave me your digital signature to authorize company transfers. When you stole money to satisfy your obsession with having a son, you stole it from my charity. I simply turned the evidence over to the federal prosecutor."
Roxanne lunged toward Julianne in a blind rage. "You ruined my brother!"
Before she could even touch Julianne, two private security officers seized Roxanne, twisting her arms behind her back.

"Miss Henderson," the officer added, turning to Roxanne. "You are also named as an accessory to tax evasion under the Henderson Estate investigation. You're coming with us as well."
As the steel handcuffs clicked around Marcus’s wrists, he looked at his daughters one last time. Lily and Maya didn't look at him with anger or sadness—they simply looked at him like he was a ghost, hugging their mother’s dress tightly.
