Chapter 5 - THE PHANTOM’S LEGACYThree months had passed since the bloodline trial reshaped the underworld. The subterranean holding cells were quiet now; Dominic had been permanently exiled to a secluded estate in the Swiss Alps with no communications, no guards loyal to him, and no access to his fortunes. Vanessa was serving a life sentence in a maximum-security federal facility, her fake belly replaced by a prison jumpsuit and a lifetime of hard labor.

And me?
I no longer wore a cotton apron. Instead, I stood on the private balcony of the Manhattan penthouse, draped in a custom emerald-silk evening gown, watching the twinkling lights of the city skyline stretch out infinitely beneath us.
Inside the suite, Emma was fast asleep in her grand canopy bed, clutching her platinum-and-black-diamond bracelet like a precious teddy bear.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me back against a warm, solid chest. Alessandro rested his chin gently on my shoulder, inhaling the scent of my hair.
"The Russian Bratva leadership is reaching out," Alessandro murmured, his breath warm against my neck. "They heard rumors that Victor Vance's encrypted financial drives were finally unlocked. They want to negotiate a territory treaty."
I turned around in his embrace, resting my hands against his chest, looking up into those dark, intense eyes that had once terrified me and now felt like the only safe harbor in the world.
"Let them look," I smiled softly. "My father's drives weren't filled with mob money, Alessandro. They were filled with audited proof of every corrupt politician, dirty cop, and syndicate boss who ever bled the city dry—including half the names on your own family council."
Alessandro chuckled, a deep, rich sound that vibrated against my palms. "You really are your father's daughter, aren't you? A dangerous little ghost hiding behind a mop and bucket."
"I did what I had to do to survive," I whispered. "And I found what I never expected to find."
"Which is?" he asked, his voice dropping to a tender, husky hum as his fingers traced the line of my jaw.
May you like
"A crime lord who actually knows how to keep his promises."
Alessandro smiled—a genuine, radiant expression reserved only for Emma and me—before pulling me into a deep, breathless kiss that shut out the noise of the city, the weight of the empire, and the ghosts of our past forever.
