Chapter 28 - The Public HumiliationThree days later, a high-profile financial blog known for breaking corporate scandals published an explosive exposé with a sensationalist headline:

‘EXPOSED: THE DARK ORIGINS OF THE VALE FOUNDATION—HOW JUDGE VALE’S SECRET LAND GRANTS BUILT A MEDICAL EMPIRE ON FRAUD!’

The article spread across social media like wildfire within minutes. Financial reporters, hostile competitor firms, and tabloid journalists began flooding the Vale Foundation’s media relations department with frantic requests for comment.

Julian Vance sat in his luxury penthouse, watching the view counts spike into the hundreds of thousands, feeling like a master chess player who had just checkmated the queen.

He picked up his phone and dialed Bella Langford.

“Bella, look at the web traffic,” Julian laughed triumphantly into the phone. “The story is everywhere. By noon, the regulatory board will have no choice but to freeze the foundation’s assets, and we’ll step in to demand our ten percent liquidation cut!”

“I told you, Julian! Catherine thinks she’s untouchable, but she’s just as vulnerable as anyone else!” Bella cheered on the other end, her voice squeaking with greedy excitement.

That afternoon, an emergency emergency board meeting was called at the downtown Miami financial center.

Julian Vance marched into the grand auditorium like a conquering hero, flanked by two corporate associates and carrying a printed copy of the leaked documents. Several skeptical board members sat around the mahogany table, looking panicked and uncertain.

As Catherine Vale Ashford walked calmly through the double doors wearing a sharp ivory suit, Julian stood up from his chair, a smug, arrogant smirk plastered across his face.

“Well, Catherine,” Julian announced loudly so everyone in the room could hear. “It looks like your pristine foundation’s house of cards has finally collapsed. These leaked compliance files prove that your entire medical empire was built on fraudulent judicial land grabs. The game is over.”

Catherine didn't flinch. She walked gracefully to the head of the table, sat down, and folded her hands neatly on the mahogany wood.

She looked at Julian with an expression of profound, chilling pity.

“Is that so, Julian?” Catherine asked, her voice crystal clear and entirely devoid of fear. “You might want to check who authored the metadata on those leaked files before you declare victory.”
