Jessica sat on the wrap-around porch of her seaside estate, a cup of herbal tea resting on the wooden table beside her.
Marcus stood leaning against the porch railing, looking out over the moonlit waves, a relaxed smile on his face.
“You know,” Marcus said quietly, turning to look at her, “looking at you right now, nobody would ever guess the storm you walked through to get here.”
Jessica smiled, her gaze sweeping across the magnificent home, the peaceful gardens, and the vast, open ocean stretching out endlessly before them.

“The storm didn't break me, Marcus,” Jessica said softly, her voice steady and resonant. “It just cleared away everything that wasn't real.”
