Chapter 4 - The Morning AfterAt 7:30 AM, sunlight cut sharply through the bedroom blinds, painting geometric patterns across the unmade bed.

Jessica sat at the kitchen island, a cup of black coffee steaming in front of her. Spread across the marble countertop were printouts of the LLC documents, bank statements, text transcripts she had downloaded from his synced iPad, and a copy of the deed to the downtown condo.
Her phone buzzed.
It was a text from Victor.
Look, Jess, I was hammered last night. You overreacted. Let’s not blow up our lives over a stupid mistake. I’m staying at a hotel. Call me when you calm down.
Jessica stared at the screen, a slow, humorless chuckle escaping her lips. Calm down.
She picked up her phone and dialed a number she had saved three days ago, back when a gut feeling—a quiet, nagging whisper she had ignored for months—finally drove her to consult a high-powered divorce attorney specializing in corporate asset concealment.
"Good morning, Evelyn Vance speaking," a crisp, professional voice answered on the second ring.
"Evelyn, it’s Jessica Carter," Jessica said, her voice steady and razor-sharp. "He took the bait. He ran straight to her, and he left the master key behind."
On the other end, Evelyn let out a low whistle of professional appreciation. "Did you secure the documents?"
"All of them. Tax returns, LLC filings, the condo deed, and the wire transfer receipts. He’s completely exposed."
"Splendid," Evelyn replied, her tone warming with predatory glee. "If we file for an emergency asset freeze today, paired with a motion for marital waste and corporate fraud, we can lock down every single bank account, stock option, and property before he even realizes what hit him. But Jessica... are you ready? Once we pull this trigger, there's no turning back."

Jessica looked out the kitchen window, watching a blue jay hop across the dew-kissed lawn.
"I’ve never been more ready in my life," Jessica said. "Destroy him."
