Chapter 19 - THE ULTIMATE BETRAYALBefore Grayson could react, the front door of the brownstone clicked open.

Amelia stepped out onto the porch, holding Chloe in her arms. She had heard enough through the open window to realize that running from the past was no longer an option.

Arthur turned his head, his eyes locking onto Amelia and the baby. A greedy, predatory light flashed in his eyes.

"Well, well, well," Arthur croaked, taking a step toward the porch. "So this is the granddaughter. Cute little thing. Looks like she has your eyes, Gray. Shame if someone were to remind her what kind of blood runs in this family."

"Don't you dare touch her," Amelia warned, stepping back instinctively, her voice shaking with righteous fury as she clutched Chloe tighter.

"Listen to me, old man," Grayson said, his voice dropping into a deadly whisper as he released Arthur's coat and stepped between them, his posture rigid. "You want a war? You've got one. But you touch my family, and I will destroy what's left of your pathetic life before you can even take another step."

Arthur chuckled darkly, backing away slowly toward the dark street corner. "You think you're safe behind your walls, Gray? Blood always calls to blood. I’ll be seeing you soon."

He melted away into the foggy night, leaving a heavy, suffocating silence in his wake.

Grayson turned around, rushing up the steps to Amelia. He reached out, his hands trembling as he touched Chloe’s tiny blanket, making sure she was safe.

"Are you okay?" Grayson asked frantically, his eyes searching Amelia’s face. "Did he frighten you?"

Amelia looked up at him, her gaze steady and unyielding. "I'm not frightened, Grayson. But we aren't running from him. We are going to end this once and for all."

Hook: Instead of cowering, Amelia and Grayson unite for the final showdown against the past, ready to burn down any obstacle to protect their future.
