Chapter 15 - The Ghost in the Machine

Back at the northern coastal estate, Adrian Moretti stood before the massive floor-to-ceiling monitors in his private underground command center. The screens displayed live satellite feeds, shipping telemetry, and encrypted financial transactions flowing across the globe.

Marko walked in, holding a high-priority printout that had just been decrypted from an intercepted satellite ping originating near the Venezuelan coast.

"Boss, you were right," Marko said, his expression grim. "Our naval patrols near Puerto Cabello flagged an unauthorized cargo vessel—the San Cristobal—taking on heavy armaments and un-manifested personnel three nights ago. Facial recognition algorithms running through our Caracas contacts flagged a positive match on the manifest: Dominic Moretti."

Adrian didn't look surprised. He took the printout from Marko’s hand, scanning the details with the calm, detached focus of a master strategist evaluating a predictable opponent.

"He found a backer," Adrian murmured, tracing a finger along the margins of the report. "Salazar and the Cartel del Sol. They’ve been looking for an excuse to expand their maritime routes into the eastern Atlantic for two years."

"They’re planning a multi-pronged strike," Marko warned, leaning over the console. "Intercepting our cargo shipments in the mid-Atlantic while hitting our distribution warehouses in New York simultaneously. He’s coming after the foundation of the empire, Boss."

"He’s predictable," Adrian replied quietly, a faint, cold smile touching his lips. "Dominic always relied on overwhelming force and stolen resources. He never understood that an empire isn't built on concrete and ships; it's built on absolute loyalty and ironclad intelligence."

"What are your orders?" Marko asked, his hand tightening on his weapon. "Do we intercept them in international waters before they reach the shipping lanes?"

"No," Adrian said, turning away from the monitors. "Let them come. Let Dominic believe he’s slipping through our defenses like a phantom. I want him to reach the primary distribution hub in New York. I want him to stand right where he thinks he’s won."

And what about Lily and her mother?" Marko asked, his voice softening slightly. "If Dominic reaches the states, he might try to target them to get to you."

At the mention of Lily, Adrian’s eyes flashed with a sudden, terrifying intensity that made even hardened men like Marko take a step back.

"Lily and Elena are moving to the deep-mountain bunker tonight under heavy guard," Adrian commanded, his voice dropping to a low, lethal rasp. "No one outside this room knows where that bunker is. And if Dominic so much as breathes their name, I want him erased from history before he can even reach the threshold."
