Chapter 17 - The Final Confrontation

Dominic’s breath caught in his throat. He scrambled to lift his weapon, his finger tightening on the trigger, but before he could clear the safety, a deafening cacophony of sound erupted behind him.
From the shadows of the rafters, from the shipping containers, from every dark corner of the cavernous warehouse, red laser sights flickered to life, painting the chests of every single mercenary in the room.
"Drop your weapons!" Marko’s voice roared from the mezzanine above, backed by the unmistakable sound of fifty assault rifles locking and loading simultaneously.
The mercenaries didn't even try to fight. They dropped their weapons to the concrete floor and raised their hands instantly, knowing they had walked directly into a well-coordinated execution zone.
Dominic stared in horror, his weapon slipping from his numb fingers and clattering loudly against the floor.
"How?" Dominic whispered, his voice trembling as he stepped backward into the elevator car, only to find Adrian standing immovable before him. "How did you know we were coming? We bypassed the radar! We slipped through the maritime patrols!"
Adrian stepped out of the elevator, closing the distance between them with slow, deliberate strides. He didn't look angry; he looked profoundly disappointed—the look of an apex predator inspecting a particularly pathetic insect.
"You always underestimated the intelligence network, Dominic," Adrian said calmly, stopping just inches away from his brother. "You thought because you studied my habits for three years, you understood how the empire operated. But you never understood the most basic rule of survival: loyalty cannot be bought with poisoned tea, and power cannot be stolen by a coward."
"I built this syndicate with you!" Dominic snarled, his mask of control completely shattering as tears of frustration mixed with sweat and dirt on his scarred face. "I ran the contracts! I negotiated the deals while you were losing your mind!"
"You tried to turn my mind into a prison so you could inherit a kingdom you never had the strength to conquer," Adrian countered, his voice cold as steel. "And worst of all... you brought harm to an innocent child who only wanted to help a broken man sleep."
Dominic flinched. For a fraction of a second, raw terror flickered in his eyes.
"Where is she?" Dominic muttered desperately. "Where is the girl?"
"Safe," Adrian replied softly. "In a place you will never, ever reach."
Adrian raised his hand and gave a single, imperceptible nod.
Marko and two enforcers moved in instantly, grabbing Dominic by the arms and hoisting him up with brutal efficiency. Dominic didn't fight back; his legs gave out beneath him, and he let out a broken, miserable sob that echoed off the cold concrete walls of the warehouse.

"No... wait, Adrian! We’re brothers! We share the same blood!" Dominic screamed as they dragged him toward the exit into the cold New Jersey night.
Adrian watched him go without a word, turning his back as the heavy steel doors slammed shut, cutting off his brother's frantic cries for mercy.
