Chapter 16 - The Trap is Set

The sprawling distribution warehouse in the industrial outskirts of New Jersey was usually a hive of nocturnal activity, filled with the roar of forklifts and the clatter of shipping crates. Tonight, however, it was an eerie, silent ghost town, shrouded in heavy fog rolling in off the dark river.
At 11:45 p.m., a convoy of three unmarked black vans pulled up silently to the loading dock, their headlights extinguished.
The rear doors swung open, and Dominic Moretti stepped out onto the wet asphalt, gripping a suppressed submachine gun in his scarred hands. Behind him poured twelve heavily armed mercenaries supplied by Salazar—cold, professional killers wearing tactical gear and night-vision goggles.
Dominic looked up at the towering steel structure of the warehouse, a triumphant, manic grin stretching across his scarred face. The perimeter security had been astonishingly quiet. No alarms. No resistance. It was as if the Moretti empire had left the front door wide open for him.
"Check the perimeter," Dominic whispered to the mercenary leader, a scarred veteran known as Ramirez. "Secure the main loading bays. Once we take the central terminal, we lock down the financial servers and broadcast the takeover code to every regional capo in the syndicate."
"Easy work," the mercenary grunted, signaling his men forward.
They moved with practiced military precision, cutting through the side security gate and slipping into the cavernous darkness of the main loading floor. The air inside smelled of stale diesel, old cardboard, and damp concrete.
Dominic walked toward the central office elevator, his boots echoing sharply against the concrete floor. He could already taste the victory. He could already imagine standing over Adrian, watching the realization dawn on his older brother’s face that all his paranoia, all his calculated defenses, had ultimately failed against a brother scorned.
He pressed the call button for the executive mezzanine.
The elevator doors slid open smoothly.
Instead of a dark, empty car, the interior was brilliantly lit by overhead halogen lights.
Standing alone in the center of the car, dressed in a tailored black suit with his hands resting calmly in his pockets, was Adrian Moretti.

Dominic froze. The submachine gun in his hands suddenly felt heavy, awkward, and entirely useless.
"Welcome home, little brother," Adrian said softly, his voice echoing through the silent warehouse.
