Chapter 4 - The Ghost of the Past

Inside the holding cell at the precinct, Eleanor sat on the metal bench, her designer clothes rumpled, her mascara smeared. Yet, her arrogance remained unyielding. When her high-powered defense attorney, Richard Sterling, entered the room, she didn't ask about Sarah or the baby.
"Get me out of here, Richard," she demanded, slamming her manicured hands on the table. "Pay the bail! Sue the police! Slander that pathetic butler in the press!"
Sterling sat down slowly, unbuttoning his suit jacket. He looked at Eleanor not with deference, but with pity.
"There is no bail, Eleanor," Sterling said flatly.
"What do you mean no bail? I am Eleanor Vance! I own half of the city's real estate!"
"You did," Sterling corrected, sliding a manila folder across the table. "An hour ago, Arthur Pendelton submitted evidence directly to the District Attorney and the Federal Board of Investigation. He didn't just give them the security footage of you pushing Sarah."
Eleanor’s breath hitched. "What else?"
"He provided your late husband's original un-redacted will," Sterling revealed. "The one from fifteen years ago. The one you paid me a million dollars to hide."
Eleanor’s blood ran cold. "He... he couldn't have. I burned that document!"
"You burned a duplicate," a sharp, imposing voice echoed from the doorway.
The heavy metal door swung open, and Julian walked in, flanked by two federal agents. He looked different. The naive, gentle boy Eleanor had manipulated for years was gone. In his eyes burned the cold, ruthless legacy of his father.
"You thought you were so clever, Eleanor," Julian said, standing over her. "You married my father when I was ten. Three years later, he died of a sudden 'heart attack.' Then my mother vanished from all family records. You made everyone believe she abandoned us."
"She was a tramp!" Eleanor spat, her composure cracking.
"She was murdered!" Julian roared, slamming his palms on the table. The shockwave echoed off the cold steel walls. "Arthur knew. He saw you swap my father’s heart medication. He was too terrified to speak back then because you threatened to destroy his family. So he waited. He collected every piece of evidence, every receipt, every drop of blood you spilled in that house!"
Eleanor shrank back into her chair, her face ghostly pale.

"And the best part?" Julian leaned down, whispering inches from her ear. "The estate was never yours. According to my father's true trust, the moment you commit a felony against a blood heir, every single asset—the bank accounts, the mansion, the stocks—reverts instantly to my son."
CHAPTER 4 HOOK / VIRAL HEADLINE: “She burned the original will 15 years ago… but she didn’t know the butler kept the real master copy in a safety deposit box!”
