Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Twist and a New Beginning

THREE MONTHS LATERThe sun rose warmly over the newly renovated Vance Manor. The oppressive, dark energy that had haunted the grand estate for decades was completely gone. Children's laughter echoed through the open windows of the courtyard.

Julian, Sarah, and their mother Elizabeth sat on the sunlit terrace, watching baby Arthur sleep peacefully in his carriage. Clara was nearby, sketching the garden landscapes.

Arthur, dressed in his finest formal suit, stepped onto the terrace carrying a tray of fresh tea and pastries.

"Everything is prepared for the afternoon, Master Julian," Arthur said with a polite, warm smile.

"Thank you, Arthur," Julian said, standing up and placing a hand on the old man's shoulder. "And please... stop calling me 'Master.' You are family."

Arthur bowed his head gracefully, a tear of gratitude glistening in his eye. "It is the greatest honor of my life, Julian."

Suddenly, Julian's phone buzzed on the table. It was a call from the Warden of the State Maximum Security Women's Penitentiary.

Julian stepped aside to answer it. "Hello?"

"Mr. Vance," the Warden's voice sounded grim over the receiver. "I am calling to inform you that Eleanor Vance passed away this morning in her cell."

Julian went quiet for a moment. "How?"

"Organ failure caused by chronic, long-term heavy metal toxicity," the Warden revealed. "It appears she had been consuming small amounts of Thallium for years."

Julian’s eyes widened in profound shock. "What? Why would she poison herself?"

"She didn't," the Warden replied quietly. "According to the toxicologist report... the poison was embedded inside her custom-made pearl necklace. The pearls were coated with a micro-toxin that absorbed through her skin every time she wore them."

Julian held his breath. "Who gave her that necklace?"

"We checked her personal inventory records from fifteen years ago," the Warden said. "The necklace was a gift given to her on her wedding day... by your late father, Charles Vance."

Julian slowly lowered the phone, staring out at the golden horizon.

His father had known all along. Charles Vance had known Eleanor was an evil, greedy woman who married him for money. Before he died, Charles had placed a slow, poetic ticking clock around Eleanor's neck—a quiet, undeniable reckoning that would take decades to complete its silent justice.

Julian looked back at his family—his wife, his mother, his sister, his healthy baby boy, and the loyal butler who had sacrificed everything to protect them all.
