Chapter 7 - The Final Confrontation

Two days later. The grand courtroom of the State Supreme Court was packed with journalists, news crews, and spectators. The fall of the Vance dynasty was the trial of the century.

Eleanor Vance sat at the defense table, wearing an orange prison jumpsuit. Her hair was unkempt, her arrogance replaced by a frantic, wild-eyed desperation. Beside her, her legal team looked overwhelmed and exhausted.

On the prosecution side sat Julian, Sarah, Clara, and Arthur.

"Call your next witness," the judge ordered, banging his gavel.

The prosecutor stood up. "The state calls Dr. Elizabeth Vance to the stand."

A quiet gasp rippled through the courtroom. Eleanor’s head snapped toward the double doors at the back of the room.

Walking down the center aisle, supported by a cane but walking with immense dignity, was a woman in her late fifties. She looked strikingly like Julian and Clara. Her eyes were sharp, her posture royal.

It was Elizabeth Vance—Julian’s biological mother, who had been presumed dead for fifteen years.

Eleanor sprang out of her chair, screaming frantically, "She’s an impostor! She’s dead! I made sure of it—"

"Silence in the court!" the judge roared, slamming the gavel repeatedly. "Bailiffs, restrain the defendant!"

Elizabeth took the witness stand, taking a deep breath as she looked directly at Eleanor.

"Fifteen years ago," Elizabeth testified, her voice clear and commanding, "Eleanor Vance attempted to poison me with heavy metals—the exact same toxin she used on my daughter-in-law, Sarah. When that failed, she threatened to murder my young son, Julian. Arthur Pendelton risked his life to fake my death and smuggle me to safety in Switzerland, where I underwent years of medical treatment to recover from the poisoning."

Elizabeth reached into her handbag and pulled out a voice recorder. "And before I left, I recorded this."

The prosecutor took the recorder and pressed play. Eleanor’s frantic, ruthless voice resonated throughout the silent courtroom:

> "If you ever return to America, Elizabeth, I will kill Julian. I will make it look like a tragic accident, just like I did with his father."

The courtroom erupted into total chaos. Reporters scrambled for the doors. Eleanor fell back into her chair, her face completely drained of life as the judge banged his gavel continuously.

CHAPTER 7 HOOK / VIRAL HEADLINE: “The dead mother walked into the courtroom after 15 years—and played the recording that ended the billionaire’s life forever!”
