Chapter 19 - A New DawnSix months later, the estate on the hill had a completely different atmosphere. The harsh, intimidating gates were gone, replaced by an open, welcoming garden. The security cameras were still there, but they no longer watched over a house of secrets and lies; they protected a home of peace.

Elena sat on the back patio, sipping her coffee, watching her son take his first independent steps across the green lawn.
A shadow fell over her table. She looked up to see Marcus standing there, dressed simply in a plain linen shirt and jeans, holding a small wooden toy he had carved himself.
"May I?" Marcus asked quietly, his eyes carrying a humble, respectful plea.
Elena nodded slowly, gesturing to the empty chair across from her. "The foundation paperwork went through this morning. Your board donation cleared."
"Good," Marcus said softly, sitting down. "I don't need the wealth, Elena. Just... purpose."

"You're a good father to him when you're allowed to visit, Marcus. I won't deny him that," Elena said, her tone softening just a fraction. "But don't ever mistake a second chance for a reset button. The past is carved into stone."
"I know," Marcus smiled faintly, watching his son laugh as he chased a butterfly. "I wouldn't want it any other way."
