Chapter 7 - The Resignation LetterThe next morning, the sun rose over the estate, casting a bright, unforgiving light on the scene of yesterday's nightmare. Marcus sat in his vast home office, a cup of cold coffee untouched on his mahogany desk.

The door opened softly. Elena walked in, wearing her civilian clothes—a simple beige trench coat and a dark scarf. In her hand, she held a crisp white envelope.

Marcus stood up immediately, his heart racing. "Elena. We need to talk about your salary, your medical bills, a permanent contract—"

"Here is my formal resignation, Mr. Vance," Elena said, placing the envelope neatly on his desk.

Marcus stared at the paper as if it were a death warrant. "No. You can't leave. Name your price. Double your salary, triple it! You saved my son's life!"

"I saved your son because he is an innocent child," Elena said firmly, her tone absolute. "Not because of you, and certainly not for your money. Some things cannot be bought back, Mr. Vance. My dignity is one of them."

She turned toward the door, leaving Marcus standing alone in his empty, golden cage.
