Chapter 3 - The Predator's TrapOutside on the patio, Victoria realized her time was up. The front door remained locked, and Marcus was still inside. Panic turned her veins to ice water. She couldn't afford to play the victim anymore; she had to switch tactics.

She bolted toward the side gate, her high heels clicking frantically against the cobblestones. Escape. I just need to get to the car.

"Going somewhere, Victoria?"

A voice like jagged glass sliced through the night air. Victoria stopped dead in her tracks. Marcus stood at the sliding glass door, his silhouette blocking any chance of escape. In his hand, he held his heavy brass house keys, spinning them slowly on a single finger.

"Marcus! Please, let me explain!" Victoria spun around, shedding her tears like a bad outfit, forcing her voice into a high-pitched tremor. "I panicked! The shock—it made me delusional! It was a momentary blackout!"

"A blackout," Marcus repeated, stepping out onto the patio. His eyes were completely devoid of human warmth. "Right. And the security footage had a blackout too, didn't it?"
