Chapter 10 - The Master Blueprint and the Unexpected ProposalThree weeks after Lauren’s midnight break-in and subsequent arrest for burglary and extortion, the storm finally cleared.

The family court judge dismissed Lauren’s custody petition with prejudice, citing harassment and criminal intent. Calloway Urban Development secured its historic preservation permits, with Maya’s historical research serving as the definitive blueprint for the project.

And Grant Calloway had completely rewritten his life’s calendar.

On a crisp Saturday morning, the living room floor was covered in colored paper, neon pipe cleaners, and glow-in-the-dark stars.

Nora sat at her usual spot at the kitchen island, meticulously gluing a tiny plastic top hat onto her favorite underwater mayor fish.

Grant walked up behind Maya, who was laughing as she tried to untangle a string of glow-in-the-dark stars from her hair. He reached out, gently taking the stars from her hands, and pulled a small, velvet-free cardboard box from his pocket.

Maya turned around, her amber eyes widening in surprise.

"What is this, Calloway? Another real estate proposal?" she teased, though her voice trembled slightly.

Grant opened the small cardboard box. Inside, resting on a bed of folded purple construction paper, was a ring crafted from a simple, elegant silver wire, shaped like the broken tail of Nora’s favorite rescued plastic horse.

"It’s not a corporate acquisition," Grant said softly, his voice steady and full of profound, unshakable certainty. "And it doesn't come with a fifteen-minute schedule."

From the kitchen island, eight-year-old Nora looked up, holding a purple marker in her hand, grinning ear to ear.

"She already passed the test, Dad," Nora chimed in brightly. "You're taking too long."

Grant chuckled, looking deep into Maya’s amber eyes. "Nora is right. You passed every test without even trying. Will you stay? Permanently?"

Maya’s eyes filled with bright, happy tears as she threw her arms around his neck, whispering against his shoulder, "Only if I'm allowed to keep my glitter."

And for the first time in his life, Grant Calloway threw away his spreadsheets entirely, knowing the best future could never be scheduled—only built with the people who truly mattered.
