Chapter 10 - Sunrise Over Wakefield

A year after the storm, the morning sun rose over the rolling green hills of Raleigh, casting a warm, golden light across the front porch of a charming, sunlit colonial house on the edge of town.
Claire Mercer stood on the front steps, holding a steaming mug of coffee in one hand while using her other hand to push a double stroller back and forth.
Inside the stroller, two healthy, bright-eyed toddlers—Maya and Leo—giggled and babbled, their tiny hands clutching colorful rattle toys. They had grown past their fragile NICU days, developing into strong, thriving, energetic babies with their mother’s resilient spirit.
The front gate clicked open. Arthur walked up the brick pathway, carrying a stack of mail and a box of pastries from the local bakery.
"Morning, sis," Arthur smiled, leaning down to kiss the top of Maya's head. "How are the little monsters treating you?"
"Like royalty," Claire laughed, her eyes bright, radiant, and entirely free of the shadows that had once haunted them. "They slept through the entire night for the very first time."
"Well, that calls for celebration," Arthur said, holding up the bakery box. "Chocolate croissants for everyone."

Claire smiled, taking a deep breath of the crisp, clean morning air. She looked out past the front lawn, down the quiet, peaceful street. Her life had been shattered into a million jagged pieces, torn apart by deceit, betrayal, and near-fatal tragedy. But out of those ruins, she had rebuilt something far stronger, unbreakable, and entirely her own.
She was a mother. She was a survivor. And as the morning sun warmed her face, Claire Mercer knew she was finally, truly home.
