As the birthday party wound down and the toddlers finally drifted off to sleep upstairs, Claire sat on the back porch swing, sipping a glass of iced tea as the evening stars began to blink into existence across the North Carolina sky.

Arthur walked out onto the porch, handing her a small, official-looking document before sitting down in the rocking chair beside her.

Claire exhaled a long breath she felt like she’d been holding for years. A quiet, profound peace washed over her.

"Thank you, Arthur," she said softly. "For everything. You didn't just save me legally; you helped me stand back up."
