Chapter 20 - Sunrise Over Wakefield

The alarm clock chimed softly at 6:30 AM, signaling the start of a brand new day.
Claire opened her eyes as golden sunlight streamed through the sheer white curtains of her bedroom window. Down the hall, she could hear the soft, sleepy babbles of Maya and Leo waking up for breakfast.
She got out of bed, walked to the window, and pushed it open, letting the crisp, fresh morning air fill the room.

Down below, the neighborhood was waking up. Birds sang in the tall oak trees, and the streets of Raleigh stretched out bright, wide, and full of promise.
Claire took a deep, satisfying breath, her heart lighter than it had ever been. She turned away from the window, smoothed down her blouse, and walked down the hallway toward her children's rooms, ready to write every single tomorrow exactly how she chose.
