Chapter 10 - The Sovereign's Legacy

Six Months Later
The private gardens of the Lake Forest estate were ablaze with summer roses. The heavy iron security gates were still there, guarded by discrete men in tailored suits, but inside the perimeter, the house was full of light, music, and laughter.
I stood on the marble terrace overlooking the sweeping green lawns, wearing a flowing white linen dress that draped comfortably over my heavy, seven-month bump.
Dorian walked out from the French doors behind me, carrying two glass flutes—one filled with vintage champagne for himself, and one with sparkling apple cider for me.
He wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me back against his broad chest, resting his hand comfortably on the heavy swell of my belly. The baby kicked sharply against his palm—a strong, energetic strike that made us both smile.
"Active today," Dorian murmured, kissing my temple.
"He knows his father is home," I replied, leaning back against him, feeling the incredible warmth and strength that had restored my world over the past six months.
"Noah secured the final contracts for the port development today," Dorian said softly, looking out over the manicured lawn. "The entire operation is fully legitimate now. Shipping, real estate, clean energy. No more shadows. No more underworld wars."
I turned in his arms, looking up into those deep grey eyes that had once terrified me, but now held only unconditional love.
"You dismantled your entire syndicate?" I asked, surprised.
"I rebuilt it," Dorian corrected, a proud, sharp spark in his eyes. "I built an empire on blood because I had nothing to lose. Now I have everything to lose. I won't raise my son in the dark, Alina. He will inherit an empire of light."
He pulled a small, velvet-lined mahogany box from his jacket pocket and opened it.
Inside sat a stunning vintage ring—a massive, flawless canary yellow diamond surrounded by a halo of tiny white diamonds.
"What is this?" I breathed, looking at the dazzling gem.
"Your father gave this to my father thirty years ago," Dorian whispered, taking my hand and sliding the ring onto my left ring finger, right beside my restored wedding band. "Before he died, your father made my family promise that if our families were ever united, this ring would belong to the woman who ruled Chicago."
I stared at him, my breath catching in my throat. "My father? My father was a high school principal!"
Dorian smiled—a wicked, brilliant grin that made my heart leap.
"Your father was the chief financial architect of the Midwest banking network, Alina," Dorian revealed, his voice laced with supreme amusement. "He was the man who created the modern banking codes my father used to build our fortune. He didn't just give me his daughter—he left a master key in your name that gives you absolute financial authority over every shell company, every trust fund, and every asset in the Cross empire."
I stared down at the blinding diamond on my finger, then back at my husband's face.
"So..." I whispered, a slow smile spreading across my lips. "I don't just own your heart. I own your entire empire."
May you like
Dorian bowed his head, resting his lips against mine in a lingering, passionate kiss that held all the promises of our past and our future.
"You always did, my queen," Dorian whispered against my lips. "You always did."
