Chapter 20 - The Dynasty of Light

Two years later, the sun shone brightly over the grand courtyard of the newly established Alina Cross Children’s Hospital in downtown Chicago—a state-of-the-art medical research facility built entirely with the liquidated funds of the former Apex Syndicate.
The street below was filled with news crews, city officials, and thousands of civilians attending the grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony.
I stood near the podium, dressed in an elegant ivory suit. Beside me stood Noah, now the official head of legitimate security operations for our global foundation, looking proud, healed, and at peace.
In my arms, two-year-old Leo—a miniature version of his father with bright, intelligent dark eyes and a mess of black hair—giggled as he played with a small toy wooden boat.
Dorian stepped up to the microphone. The dark suit he wore was impeccably tailored, but he no longer looked like the terrifying mafia boss the city once feared in hushed whispers. He looked like a sovereign ruler who had conquered his darkness and transformed it into absolute power.
"This hospital," Dorian’s deep, resonant voice echoed across the crowd through the speakers, "is dedicated to my wife, Alina. She taught me that true power isn't measured by how many enemies you strike down in the dark, but by how many lives you protect in the light."
The crowd erupted in thunderous applause as Dorian stepped back from the podium, wrapping his strong arm around my waist, pulling me and Leo close against his side.
We looked out over the skyline of Chicago—a city that had once tried to tear us apart, a city where we had bled, fought, and nearly lost everything.
"Are you happy, Mrs. Cross?" Dorian whispered in my ear, his lips brushing against my cheek, his hand resting over mine.
I turned my head, looking into the deep grey eyes of the man who had burned an empire to keep me safe, the man who had loved me through death and rebirth.

"I am home, Dorian," I smiled, leaning up to press my lips softly against his. "We finally won."
Dorian smiled—a rare, beautiful, breathtaking expression—and kissed me back under the bright morning sun, as our son laughed in our arms, cementing our unshakeable dynasty forever.
