Chapter 14 - Siege on the Bunker
The private medical bay built into the subterranean vault beneath the Lake Forest estate was lit with harsh neon lights. Dr. Mercer was already there, hurriedly prepping surgical instruments while nurses hooked intravenous lines into my arms.
Outside the thick steel bunker doors, the muffled sound of explosions rattled the concrete foundation. Sterling’s private military force had breached the outer grounds, descending upon the estate with high-tech assault gear and silenced weapons.
"Her blood pressure is spiking!" Dr. Mercer yelled over the sound of alarms blaring throughout the complex. "We can't move her to a hospital! The baby is coming right now!"
Dorian stood by my side, his coat discarded, his shirt sleeves pulled up, holding my hand so tightly his knuckles turned white. He was torn between two worlds—the husband desperate to keep his wife alive, and the warlord who needed to defend the perimeter.
"Go," I choked out through a violent contraction, tears streaming down my flushed face. "Dorian... they're breaking through the upper level! If they reach the generator, the power dies!"
"I'm not leaving you," he growled, kissing my sweat-drenched forehead.
"Noah and Dominic are holding the stairs!" I screamed, pulling his head down to mine. "Kill them! Protect our child!"
Dorian looked into my eyes, his dark irises blazing with an unholy fire. He leaned down, kissed my lips deeply, and unholstered two heavy weapons from the wall safe.

"Keep her breathing," Dorian commanded Dr. Mercer, his voice cold enough to freeze blood. "If anything happens to my family, there is nowhere on this earth you can hide."
He stepped out into the dark hallway as the heavy steel blast doors closed behind him with a deafening hydraulic thud.
