Chapter 18 - The Rooftop Reckoning

Dominic let out a primal roar of fury, aiming his weapon directly at my head.
BANG.
Noah fired first. The round caught Dominic in the shoulder, knocking him backward out of the medical room into the main corridor.
Dominic scrambled to his feet, bleeding heavily, and fled up the emergency stairwell toward the roof, realizing his leverage was gone and Sterling’s helicopter was his only remaining hope of escape.
"Noah! Go!" I shouted, holding my crying newborn baby. "Don't let him get away!"
On the rain-swept roof of the Lake Forest mansion, a massive, double-rotor extraction helicopter hovered twenty feet above the helipad, its searchlight blinding through the howling wind and pouring rain.
Lord Sterling stood near the open cabin door, shouting frantically at his pilot over the roar of the engines. "Land the chopper! Land it now!"
Dominic burst onto the wet roof, clutching his bleeding shoulder, sprinting toward the helicopter. "Sterling! She wiped the accounts! The money is gone!"
Sterling’s face turned ghastly pale in the helicopter’s searchlight. "What?!"
Before Dominic could reach the landing gear, the heavy steel roof door was kicked off its hinges.
Dorian stepped out into the pouring rain. His black shirt was soaked with water and enemy blood, his eyes glowing like embers in the darkness. In his hand, he held a high-caliber anti-material rifle.
"Sterling!" Dorian’s voice boomed over the deafening roar of the helicopter blades.
Sterling looked down from the chopper door in pure terror. "Kill him! Drop him now!"

Dorian raised the heavy rifle, took aim in a fraction of a second, and fired three continuous heavy rounds directly into the main rotor assembly of the helicopter. Sparks erupted in a blinding shower as the rotor blades shattered, sending the massive aircraft spinning wildly out of control over the edge of the roof.
The helicopter plummeted into the dark, raging waters of Lake Michigan below, exploding in a massive fireball that lit up the night sky.
