Chapter 16 - Rebuilding the LegacyTwo years had passed since the night that changed my life forever.

The brick house on Elm Street looked more vibrant than ever. The garden my father had planted burst with crimson roses and bright yellow marigolds along the front walkway, thriving under the warm summer sun.

Maya was now a spirited, joyful toddler running across the hardwood floors with a contagious laugh that echoed through every room.

I sat on the front porch with a cup of hot coffee, watching her chase a fluttering butterfly across the lawn while Mrs. Patel sat nearby, knitting a tiny woolen blanket.

"You know, Jessi," Mrs. Patel said, looking up from her needles with a warm smile. "Looking at you now, nobody would ever guess what you went through on these grounds. You turned a house of fear into a home of absolute strength."

"I had good blueprints," I replied, glancing up at the new, state-of-the-art security camera mounted discreetly above the doorway.

My phone buzzed on the small wooden table beside my chair. It was a notification from the local historical society, confirming that the community park downtown was officially being renamed in honor of Arthur Vance—recognizing his lifelong contributions to architectural engineering and community preservation.

I smiled, feeling the faint, silvery trace of the burn scar along my left arm. It no longer carried any pain. It was simply proof of a battle fought, a monster defeated, and a legacy preserved against impossible odds.
