Chapter 7 - The Highway InterceptionThe pursuit on Route 9 was fast, cold, and relentless.

Heavy autumn rain slicked the asphalt as three unmarked cruiser units coordinated a tactical pincer movement around Wendy’s speeding sedan. Through the dashboard camera feed streamed back to precinct headquarters, I watched from Vance’s desk as the silver car swerved aggressively across two lanes of traffic, trying to ditch the state troopers trailing her bumper.

Wendy wasn't going to surrender quietly. She was cornered, desperate, and completely unhinged.

"Box her in near the old timber bridge," Vance’s voice barked over the tactical radio channel. "Do not let her reach the border crossing."

On screen, I watched as a state police SUV surged forward, cutting off Wendy’s path while two cruisers forced her sedan toward the metal guardrail. The silver car fishtailed, spun 180 degrees in a cloud of burning rubber and white tire smoke, and slammed hard against the concrete barrier.

Within seconds, doors flew open. Troopers with drawn sidearms surrounded the wreck, shouting commands into the stormy night.

"Driver, put your hands where we can see them! Step out of the vehicle slowly!"

The driver's side door creaked open. Wendy stumbled out, her designer coat soaked in rain, her hair matted against her face. She looked less like an untouchable queen bee and more like a cornered animal, screaming curses at the troopers as they forced her to her knees and slapped steel cuffs around her wrists.

Inside the precinct command room, I let out a long, ragged breath I felt like I had been holding for months.

The spider web was torn to shreds. Every thread of deceit, manipulation, and violence had been severed.
