Chapter 13 - THE ULTIMATE BETRAYALBefore Dante could pull the trigger, a metallic click echoed right beside his ear.

Dante froze. Slowly, he shifted his gaze.
Vera stood beside him, her hands trembling slightly, but her grip on her own sidearm was steady—and the barrel was pressed firmly against Dante’s ribs.
The air in the room vanished. Dante stared at his sister, disbelief warring with cold realization.
"Vera..." Dante breathed, the word heavy with a pain deeper than any gunshot wound. "Not you."
Vera’s eyes shone with unshed tears, but she refused to look away. "I’m sorry, Dante. But you've grown weak. Your obsession with a dead past was going to destroy everything our father built. Elena saw the truth. The Orelio empire needs a complete reset, not a sentimental king."
"You helped Marco?" Dante asked, his voice dead flat.
"Marco was a blunt instrument," Elena interjected, walking closer to stroke Vera’s shoulder approvingly. "Vera was the architect. She helped me fake the warehouse fire five years ago. She helped me smuggle out our financial records. And she arranged for your little waitress to be placed right in Orelio's path tonight."
Elina stared at Vera in horror. "You put an innocent person in the crossfire just for your family politics?"
May you like
"You aren't innocent, sister," Elena replied coldly. "You carry Orelio blood. In our world, that’s a death sentence or a crown. There is no middle ground."
With a swift hand gesture from Elena, two mercenaries lunged forward, grabbing Dante from behind before he could react, wrestling his weapon away and pinning him against the concrete pillar. Another guard grabbed Elina by the arms, silencing her protests as they trapped them both.
