Chapter 20 - THE TWIST OF THE ASHES (THE UNEXPECTED ENDING)Before Elena could squeeze the trigger, a sharp, deafening CRACK echoed through the armory—not from Elena's gun, but from the ceiling above.

SMASH.
Glass and concrete rained down as a heavy tactical rope dropped through the ventilation shaft. Before anyone could react, a figure slid down with lightning speed, landing squarely between Elena and Dante.
It wasn't a loyalist guard. It wasn't a Moretti assassin.
It was Marco.
The man who had supposedly betrayed them to the Morettis, the man who had sold out the syndicate, stood there with a smoking pistol in his hand, his eyes locked not on Dante, but directly on Elena.
Elena stumbled back, shock fracturing her cold exterior. "Marco... what are you doing? Shoot them!"
Marco didn't move. Instead, he lowered his weapon slightly and let out a tired, cynical laugh. "I told you, Elena... I'm a businessman. The Morettis paid well, but you? You're a tyrant who was always going to burn this house to the ground."
"You double-crossing rat!" Elena shrieked, swinging her rifle toward him.
"Elena, drop it," a calm, authoritative voice echoed from the open doorway behind the mercenaries.
Every head snapped toward the entrance. A dozen heavily armed men in black tactical gear—wearing the insignia of the true, uncorrupted Orelio Vanguard—poured into the room, their weapons aimed directly at Elena and her guards. And leading them was an elderly man with sharp gray hair and the exact same piercing dark eyes as Dante—Dante’s estranged uncle, long thought executed by the syndicate years ago.
Elena froze, her finger trembling on the trigger. "Uncle... you're supposed to be dead."
"Everyone in this family loves playing dead," the old man said coldly, stepping forward. He gestured to the guards, who swiftly disarmed Elena's mercenaries, pinning them to the floor.
Elena dropped her rifle. It clattered loudly against the concrete floor. She looked around the room, realizing her grand empire had evaporated in a single heartbeat.
Dante slowly stepped out from behind the console, his gaze fixed on his wife. He didn't gloat. He didn't yell. He simply walked past her, his eyes landing on Vera, who stood shaking in the corner, before stopping in front of the mercenary holding baby Leo.
Gently, Dante reached out and took his son into his arms. The baby instantly quieted, resting his tiny head against his father's chest with a contented sigh.
"It's over, Elena," Dante said quietly, not looking back as federal and syndicate police sirens wailed faintly in the distance outside the estate gates. "Your reign of shadows is finished."
Two hours later, as dawn broke over the city, painting the sky in streaks of bruised purple and gold, Elina stood on the stone balcony of the grand estate, looking out over the sprawling gardens. Her uniform was gone, replaced by a simple, elegant jacket.
Footsteps approached behind her. She didn't need to turn around to know who it was.
Dante stepped up beside her, holding baby Leo, who had finally fallen fast asleep.
"What happens now?" Elina asked softly, the cool morning breeze catching her dark hair.
Dante looked down at her, a quiet, genuine warmth softening the hard lines of his face for the first time since they had met. "That's entirely up to you, Elina. You can walk away, take the money Marco's accounts left behind, and live any life you want... or you can stay."

Elina looked at the baby, then up at the man who had stared down an empire for his son. A faint, knowing smile touched her left cheek, right where her dimple always hid.
"I think," Elina murmured, sliding her hand into Dante's, "I've had enough of waiting tables."
