Chapter 15 - THE SISTERLY ULTIMATUMElena unlocked the cell door herself, pushing it open with a slow, deliberate screech of iron hinges.

"Leave us," Elena commanded her guards. They stepped back into the shadows of the corridor, leaving the three of them isolated behind the heavy bars.
Elina crossed her arms, standing protectively near Dante. "I don't want your propositions, Elena. Let us out."
"Let you out?" Elena laughed, a light, melodic sound that felt completely out of place in a dungeon. "Elina, look around. You were living paycheck to paycheck, dodging rent collectors, scrubbing grease off restaurant plates. I am offering you half an empire. All you have to do is step into the light as my proxy when necessary, help me finalize the hostile takeover of the Moretti shipping ports, and you can have more wealth than you ever dreamed of."
"And if I say no?" Elina asked, her chin lifting defiantly.
Elena’s smile faded slightly, replaced by a cold, clinical stare. "Then you remain locked in this cell until you rot away like the nameless orphan you thought you were."
"She isn't going anywhere with you," Dante growled, pushing himself up from the bench, standing tall despite his injuries. He glared at his wife. "If you want a war, Elena, fight me. Leave her out of it."
"She is me, Dante," Elena whispered, stepping closer to the bars, her face inches from Elina's. "We share the same blood, the same face, the same destiny. You fell in love with one half of the coin. Now you get to face the other."
Without waiting for an answer, Elena turned on her heel, her coat sweeping behind her as she walked down the corridor.
