Chapter 3 - SECRETS BURIED IN ASHES"I am not Elena," Elina snapped, shifting the sleeping baby slightly to ease the cramp in her arm. "My name is Elina. With an i. I grew up in St. Jude’s Foster Home across town. I’ve never seen either of you before in my life!"

Vera blinked hard, shaking her head as if trying to wake from a nightmare. She walked closer, her eyes scanning Elina’s features—the curve of her nose, the distinct shape of her fingernails, the way her hair curled at the nape of her neck.

"It's impossible," Vera muttered, looking at her brother. "Dante, we buried her. Five years ago. The fire at the harbor warehouse... there was nothing left except..."

"Except a ring and a DNA match from bone fragments that the local police handed over," Dante finished, his voice dropping into a chilling, hollow register. He stepped toward Elina, towering over her. "A DNA match that the police department—controlled by our biggest rival, the Moretti family—provided within twenty-four hours."

Elina’s breath hitched. "What does that have to do with me?"

"Everything," Dante said darkly.

He gestured to a massive mahogany desk in the corner of the room. Marco unlocked a heavy steel drawer and pulled out a thick, aged manila folder, slamming it down on the wood.

Dante flipped open the cover. Inside were old photographs, medical charts, and a birth certificate that made Elina’s blood run cold.

Elena Orelio. Born to an estranged branch of a prominent European family.

And right beneath it, a detail that made the room spin: Twin sisters separated at birth following a tragic family liquidation.

"You aren't a random orphan, Elina," Dante whispered, his face inches from hers, his dark eyes burning with a terrifying mix of fury and sudden, desperate hope. "You are Elena’s identical twin. And whoever set that fire five years ago... knew you both existed."
