Chapter 9 - THE DRAGON'S WRATHBefore the guard could step around the boulder, a blur of dark motion dropped silently from the low-hanging branches above.

It was Dante.
He moved with the terrifying, silent efficiency of a apex predator. Before the first guard could even register the sound, Dante’s arm wrapped around his neck in a brutal, crushing chokehold, snapping him unconscious before he hit the dirt.
The second guard whipped his rifle around, but Dante didn't give him a chance to fire. With lightning speed, Dante drew his sidearm and discharged a single, muffled shot into the guard's shoulder, dropping him instantly.
Dante stood over them, breathing heavily, blood dripping from his wounded shoulder, his face smeared with soot. He looked down at Elina crouched behind the boulder, clutching his son.
"Are you okay?" Dante demanded, dropping to one knee, his hands flying out to check over both Elina and Leo with frantic, uncharacteristic tenderness.
"I'm fine. Leo is fine," Elina breathed, her voice shaking as she stared up at him in disbelief. "How did you get out? The panic room—"
"Marco’s code had a backdoor," Dante said darkly, pulling them both to their feet. "A backdoor my father built, and Marco was too arrogant to check. We blew the outer wall. Vera is safe at the secondary extraction point."
He grabbed Elina’s hand, his fingers intertwining firmly with hers. "We need to move. The whole city’s police force—bought off by Moretti—is on its way here."

"Where are we going?" Elina asked as he led her toward a sleek, unmarked black SUV hidden deep within the treeline.
"To find out the truth about who you are," Dante replied, his eyes flashing with a cold, terrifying promise of retribution. "And to make the men who took your sister pay for everything."
