Chapter 10 - A New DawnThe sun broke through the heavy coastal clouds that afternoon, casting a golden glow over our small front porch.

The kids were out in the yard, Rosie chasing a butterfly while Ben and Molly built an elaborate castle out of autumn leaves. Lily sat on the porch step next to me, resting her head gently against my shoulder.

"Grandma, do you think Mom is watching us?" Lily asked softly, her fingers tracing the edge of the birthday box Darla had left behind for her eighteenth birthday.

I wrapped my arm around her frail shoulders, pulling her close as I looked up at the bright, clear sky.

"Every single day, sweetheart," I whispered, smiling as a warm breeze swept across the lawn. "Every single day."
