Chapter 12 - Voices from BeyondAgent Sterling’s expression turned grim as she accepted the microcassette. She pulled a portable decoding device from her tactical pouch, slotted the tiny tape in, and pressed play.

Darla’s voice filled the quiet living room, slightly distorted by static, but unmistakable.
“If you’re listening to this, Agent Sterling, or whoever holds this badge, you already know about the Vance cartel. But you don't know why they killed my husband and me. It wasn't just about the financial ledger. My husband, Mark, stumbled upon a human trafficking pipeline disguised as an international adoption network—one that Vance’s top deputies were running through the local hospital where I volunteered.”
A cold sweat broke out across my back. The local hospital—the very place where Rosie was born.
“They were abducting newborns from mothers in distress, forging adoption papers, and funneling them overseas to high-paying buyers. Mark threatened to go public. They staged the plane crash to eliminate both of us and reclaim the children before they could talk or become leverage. But they didn't count on you, Mom. They didn't count on a seventy-one-year-old grandmother with the courage of an army.”
Agent Sterling clicked the player off, her jaw tight. "This changes everything. This isn't just financial crimes anymore. This is a federal conspiracy involving child exploitation at the highest levels."

"My grandchildren," I said, my voice dropping to a fierce whisper. "Are they still in danger?"
"Not anymore," Sterling promised, placing a firm hand on my shoulder. "We are mobilizing a full task force. Every single person connected to this network is going down."
