Chapter 9 - The Fall of Viktor VanceThe next morning, the national news broke a story that shook the financial and political world to its core.

“Federal authorities, acting on an encrypted ledger provided by a private estate, have raided the downtown headquarters of billionaire philanthropist Viktor Vance. Vance is currently facing federal charges of money laundering, international extortion, and conspiracy linked to corporate assassinations...”
Sitting in my living room, watching the television screen while the children ate their cereal, I finally let out a breath I felt like I had been holding for six months.
The doorbell rang.
This time, when I opened it, there were no men in dark suits. Standing on the porch was a woman in a crisp federal jacket holding a sealed manila envelope, accompanied by a local social worker.
"Mrs. Miller?" the agent asked gently. "The threat has been neutralized. Viktor Vance and his entire syndicate are in custody. The safe deposit box has been cleared, and your family is officially safe under federal protection."
Tears finally spilled over my cheeks—not tears of fear, but of profound, overwhelming relief.
"Thank you," I whispered.

The social worker smiled warmly, stepping aside as Lily, Ben, Molly, and Rosie ran into the hallway, arguing over who got the last cartoon box.
"Grandma, can we go to the park today?" Lily asked, looking up at me with bright, hopeful eyes. "The sun is finally coming out."
