Chapter 10 - DAWN OF A NEW EMPIREThe sun broke over the Manhattan skyline on a crisp, brilliant Saturday morning, painting the skyscrapers in shades of gold and amber.

Inside the sprawling, sunlit living room of our Brooklyn penthouse, the air smelled of freshly brewed espresso, vanilla, and baby powder.
My mother and sister were currently sitting in a cold, sterile holding cell downtown, facing federal conspiracy and treason charges after our legal team handed over the complete audio and video recordings of their collusion with Salvatore Rossi directly to the FBI. There would be no bail, no second chances, and no escape.
Mark was already serving time in federal prison for wire fraud.
The bloodline had been pruned. The rot had been cut away.
I stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass window, cradling little Liam in my arms. He let out a soft, contented sigh, his tiny fingers wrapping tightly around my pinky finger with surprising strength.
Maya walked up behind me, wrapping her arms gently around my waist and resting her head against my shoulder. The color had fully returned to her cheeks, her health restored, her smile radiant and completely at peace.
"What are you thinking about, David?" she asked softly, looking out at the sprawling city below us.
I looked down at our son, then turned to kiss the top of Maya's head.
"I was thinking," I whispered, a genuine smile breaking across my face, "that we've survived the worst winter of our lives. Now... it's time to enjoy the spring."
