Chapter 14 - THE NURSERYThat night, the Brooklyn penthouse was bathed in absolute silence—the kind of quiet that only true security can buy.

I walked quietly down the polished hardwood hallway of the top floor, my footsteps muffled by thick Persian rugs. The door to Liam’s nursery was cracked open, leaking a warm, amber glow into the corridor.
I pushed the door open gently.
Maya was sitting in a plush rocking chair by the window, wearing a soft pastel sweater. In her arms, little Liam was sleeping soundly, his tiny chest rising and falling in a rhythmic, peaceful cadence.
She looked up as I entered, a soft, radiant smile spreading across her face.
"Is it over?" she whispered softly, not wanting to wake the baby.
I walked over, kneeling beside her chair, and rested my hands gently on her knees.
"It’s over," I murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her palm. "Your mother and sister are locked away for a very long time. Salvatore Rossi is finished. No one will ever threaten this family again."
Maya let out a long, shuddering sigh of profound relief. The last lingering shadow of fear in her eyes finally melted away, replaced by a pure, beautiful warmth.
"I was so afraid for a long time, David," she confessed, her voice thick with emotion. "When you were across the ocean... and I was left alone in that cold apartment... I thought we wouldn't survive."
I reached up, wiping a stray tear from her cheek with my thumb.

"You survived because you are stronger than you know," I said fiercely. "And I am never leaving again. My empire is right here in this room."
Liam let out a soft, milky sigh in his sleep, his tiny hand twitching against Maya's chest. We both smiled, watching our son dream in a world finally safe from the monsters who had tried to destroy us.
